Storyline Summer League 2020

Post by Rudolf »

Dear Methuselahs,

You have waited a long time for this announcement, yet here it is:
The next Lackey League will start this Friday, 10th of July.

Again, we have something special for you:
This time we will play a so-called Storyline event.

I will announce later the day what this means rule-wise.
But now enjoy the prologue, written by Jan Erik Söderman.

» A Pint of Bad News

Dónal was sitting inside »Fibber Magees« on a stool, looking at the pint in front of him. It has been a long time since he could drink one but it still helped his mood to fondle the cool surface of the glass. Behind him the mortals were partying to some modern style of music he had long lost track of. Molly, his scourge, was approaching him from behind with news. He could feel her eyes on him and made a half turn on the stool to glance at her. The snaggle toothed woman had a look of slight concern on her face. He watched the crowd part around her without even realizing the short woman was excising her influence on them. Finally she reached him. She stood there in his presence for a moment, waiting for his sign to start talking. He regarded her with unflinching eyes for a second before giving her a slight nod.
“Sir, we found the anarchs”, she started. “They were… not well.”
Dónal raised an expressive eyebrow. “Not well? Did someone beat you to them?”
“In a manner of speaking, I suppose. They were bloated, Sir. One of them was in torpor from his blood seeping out of his body”, Mary said with a hint of fear in her voice. Dónal felt his temper rising slightly.
“What are you trying to say? Speak up!”
“Uhm... “She flinched. “They are sick, Sir. It appears they’ve caught it. The disease. From the news.”
“What? How is that possible?”, Dónal uttered in slight disbelief.
“I don’t know, Sir. I…” Molly had not seen her prince lose his temper in quite some time. She was starting to realize she should have insisted they meet out back rather than in public. ”I just know that the one of them who could talk said he’d gotten it from an illegal rave with a lot of people. I can look into it.”
Having calmed down somewhat, Dónal nodded. “Yes… do look into it. And… don’t come anywhere near me again before you’re done and this thing dies down. It might affect me, too“, he said and pondered for a moment. “A disease you say… Reach out to anyone still picking up the phone, maybe Boston or Liverpool at the very least. Ask them if anyone has seen that Welshman Owain lately. He was involved in that mess around the turn of the century, wasn’t he?”
“I don’t know, Sir”, said Molly, not sure if he actually expected her, who had been but a fledgling at the time, to know anything about this.

Dónal felt his temper stirring again. This was a bad situation He knew how to avoid being affected by plagues in the past. He knew to scurry away into the dark corners of society like a rat and to hide. But he also knew: this would cause his authority to be challenged. Perhaps those bastards from Belfast would be back. Maybe some of those anarchs could recover and take advantage of the situation. His nostrils flared for a moment. He tried to calm himself and glanced at Molly who was clearly ready to bolt at the first sign of his beast taking charge. “Yes. It’s been a long time since I saw that rebellious scumbag. Ask them if he’s still alive somewhere within reach. He might know something.”
Molly nodded respectfully at her dark monarch. Without him having to say another word she scurried out of there into a nearby alleyway to start instructing her retainers on their mission. Coming to a stop she felt a tickle in her throat and for the first time in years she coughed. When she was able to breathe again she glanced down upon her pale palm and saw droplets of blood on it. «

As per all previous Storyline events special rules apply:
• For deck construction: at least 75% (e.g. 9 out of 12) of the vampire cards in each player’s crypt must belong to the same vampire clan. Caitiff, Panders, bloodlines and Imbued count as clans for this purpose.
• For the games: From the very start of each game, there should be a "Vampiric Disease" in play – as a reminder. Regarding “Vampiric Disease” Imbued count as vampires!
• Important: The first vampire or Imbued (!) put into play by each player is automatically infected with "Vampiric Disease". Diseased vampires would also spread the disease to any Embraces etc. they put into play.
[NEW] • Regarding "Recalled to the Founder" Imbued count as vampires of one clan.

League mode:
• League starts Friday Juli 10th at 20:30 h CEST (registration opens 20:00 h).
• Organized league games will be played during the next 6 Fridays and next 6 Sundays: July 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th, 24th, 26th, 31st / August: 2nd, 7th, 9th, 14th, 16th.
• The maximum number games in league is 10, but only 5 best games will be calculated in table.
• The final bonus for league is 0.25.
• The 5 best players will go to the finals. Seating in finals is random! 5th seed is 1st player to load deck in finals, and top seed loads deck last.
• Multi-deck system applies, so you are allowed to play a different deck each game.
[NEW] • A player who reaches the finals is limited to choose for his deck only one of the clans he achieved at least 1 VP (in total) with, though it may be a totally different deck.
• Self-organized game are possible, but (at least) the 10th game has to be a organized league game. A player can play more than two games a week.

Registration:
1. Tell one of the organizers that you want to play for this day, contact us either on Lackey or via social media.
2. Best is to connect to Lackey approximately half an hour before the starting time.

Organizers:
• Rudolf Scholz, Lackey name “The Bard”
• Lionel Panhaleux, Lackey name “Phoenix”
(Igor Beslin and Martin Weinmayer are taking a well-earned break.)

How to report self-organized games:
• The player who organizes the table needs to check that all players are registered before the online event .
• If some players are not registered, the organizer will need to include in the table report for each unregistered player:
1. the full real name
2. the lackey name
3. the country

The organizer can check which players are already registered here: www.vtes-hook.com/vtes/show-player-over ... layer-list

Heute Abend wird es neben dieser noch ein, zwei weitere Ergänzungen geben.
Es könnte allerdings sein, dass ich bzgl. "Recalled to the Founder" einen anderen Weg gehe, als diese Karte zu bannen.

Two additions, one follows a suggestion by Karl Schaefer in a modified version, one deals with a card usually taken care of in storyline events:

1) A player who reaches the finals is "limited" to choose for his deck only one of the clans he achieved at least 1 VP (in total) with, though it may be a totally different deck.
This contributes to the storyline idea.

2) "Recalled to the Founder" is usually banned in storyline events, but let's try out something different:
Regarding "Recalled to the Founder" Imbued count as vampires of one clan.

(Sorry for the late announcement, I could not do it earlier.)

Würde dann bei der zwei vlt der vollständigkeit nachtragen "And their Lifemaximum (oder wie genau das bei imbued heist) is regarded as their capacity."

Dear Methuselahs,

Playing a game in a Lackey League has always been connected with "text only" games.
However, it no longer has to be that way – and "via voice-chat" is possible if three conditions are fulfilled:
a) Each player of a given table agrees on playing via voice-chat.
b) Each of these players meets the technical requirements.
c) They agree on a specific voice-chat platform (in a specific room), and inform the responsible Lackey League organiser about playing via voice-chat.

We sincerely hope this makes the Lackey Leagues an even more exciting experience. :)

***

The next two League games will be Friday, 17th, and Sunday, 19th, starting 20:30 CEST (with registration opened 20:00 CEST).

Did you ever ask yourself, how famous players would design a Storyline deck?
Well. if your question is "How would Martin Weinmayer build a deck for the Summer Storyline League", you can find out tomorrow (Friday, 17th of July, 20:30 CEST). 8) :D
